A rare find, the Euphorbia meloformis is a small clustering euphorbia found in the dry, hot regions of South Africa. It grows in a clustering habit, rotund with patterned ridges. The variegated meloformis boasts striking green and white bands, a highly collectable variety amongst plant enthusiasts. Euphorbia meloformis is native to the eastern Cape Providence of South Africa, mostly found between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown.
Euphorbia plants do best in full sun, at least 5 to 8 hours a day. Avoid intense afternoon sun. Grow outdoors in light shade or indoors in a sunny window with southern exposure and direct sun.
Euphorbia are drought tolerant plants. Allow the soil to dry out in between waterings then water them thoroughly, fully saturating the soil. If you are unsure whether or not the soil is dry, wait a few days before watering. It is much better to underwater than over water. Excessive moisture can quickly lead to root rot. Always check your local weather before watering indoor arid plants in winter. It is best to water if there is a stretch of sunshine in the forecast.
All Euphorbia plants contain a poisonous sap that is toxic if ingested and highly irritant if contacted with skin. Keep out of reach of pets and children. Wear gloves and take care when handling this plant.. Fertilize: These plants do not require much fertilization. To give them a boost during the growing season fertilizer once monthly with a fertilizer formulated specifically for cacti and succulents. Only fertilize during the spring and summer. Cut back on fertilizing entirely during the winter months.
