Pachycereus marginatus Cactus - 4'

$550.00

The Pachycereus marginatus is native to Central Mexico but has been naturalized throughout Mexico. The columnar trunks can grow up to 20 feet tall and produce short, rounded stems that resemble a pipe organ which is one of the common names. Also known as the Fencepost cactus, it is used to construct living fences, mainly along roadways in arid climates like Mexico and the southern states of Texas.

Origin

Native to Mexico.

Sun

Pachycereus marginatus requires plenty of full sun. Eight hours of direct sunlight a day is ideal but at a minimum these plants should be provided with at least five hours. If you are growing them indoors a spot in a south facing window is ideal. If growing these outdoors, place them in an area where they will get light shade to protect them from peak afternoon sun.

Water

During the grow season, it should be watered thoroughly, when the soil is dry. During cold, winter months, it should be left to dry between waterings and watered sparingly. In winter, check your local weather before watering indoor arid plants. It is best to water if there is a stretch of sunshine in the forecast.

Tula's Tip

These hardy plants require very little maintenance. Container grown cacti prefer to be rootbound, so repotting should be necessary only once every 2-5 years, depending the growth environment. Repot into a planter 2” larger in diameter to give the plant plenty of room to continue growing. Fertilize: These cacti do not require much fertilization. To give them a boost during the growing season fertilize once monthly with a fertilizer formulated specifically for cacti and succulents.

Size

Approx. 4.25' (51") tall and planted in a 14" grow pot.
