Opuntia miquelii is a native of the northern Chilean coast, where it is relatively widespread. Its cylindrical, bluish stems are covered in long spines and are easily torn from the plant. The species counts on this to multiply. In its home territory, it routinely gets snagged on the fur of roaming guanacos and then dispersed via broken segments and seeds throughout the region. Please note: Every plant will vary in size, color and shape from the one pictured. Planter is not included. Plant ships bare root. Soil included according to plant size.
Native to Chile.
Opuntia miquelli require plenty of full sun. 3-5 hours of direct sunlight a day is ideal. The more sun, the faster they will grow during the grow season.
Opuntia miquelli should be allowed to dry between waterings but do not leave dry for too long. During the grow season and when the soil is completely dry, water them thoroughly, fully saturating the soil. If you are unsure whether or not the soil is dry, wait a few days before watering. Excessive moisture can quickly lead to root rot.
Easy to propagate by new growth, but be careful of those spines, they are very sharp! Fertilize: Opuntia miquelli do not require fertilization, however a boost of nutrients during the growing season will help them thrive. Use a fertilizer formulated specifically for cacti and succulents, once a month, during spring and summer only.
