Tephrocactus articulatus papyracanthus

$22.00

The Tephrocactus articulatus papyracanthus are small low growing segmented cactus that grow into pinecone-like branches. The spines are paper-like and not sharp at all. Careful of the glochids that grow at the areoles as they can be irritating if handled without gloves.

Please note: Every plant will vary in size, color and shape from the one pictured. Plant ships bare root. Soil included according to plant size.
Origin

Native to Western Argentina.

Sun

These cacti prefer lots of sun, at least 5 to 8 hours of direct sun daily. Indoors a south facing window is ideal. Outdoors seat them in a place where they will get plenty of sun exposure, but protect them from intense, peak afternoon sun.

Water

In the summer months, water only when the soil has dried out completely. Always err on the side of underwatering. They are built to withstand drought, and overwatering is one of the quickest ways to kill them. Water less in the winter months and only when there is a stretch of sunshine in the forecast.

Tula's Tip

The Tephrocactus will turn a blue/green to purple color when grown in full sun. The blooms last only one day and grow from the cactus crown. Fertilize: The Tephrocactus do not require fertilizer though it can be added to give container grown plants a boost or to supplement poor soil. Apply a water-soluble, balanced fertilizer monthly, diluted at half strength.

Size

Approx. 2-3" tall comprising of three cactus heads and fits in a 4" terra cotta planter. Every plant will vary in size, color and shape.
