    Monadenium rubellum

    This perennial Kenya native has a distinctive “root foot,” where it stores water during dry periods. Snake-like stems curl and flower year-round, giving this plant a unique appeal to collectors. The root foot, or caudex, is typically given many years to establish before it is repotted to be partially exposed above the soil.

    Mammillaria bocasana f. monstruosa

    Truly a Frankenstein’s monster of plants, Mammillaria bocasana f. Monstruosa, or Fred (named after the man who discovered it), is a nursery cultivated mutated clone of Mammillaria bocasana. There is very little family resemblance. It is famous for its rubbery green and pink globes, the occasional spike or hair out of nowhere, and its chaotic, tumorous growth habit that is always different from plant to plant.

    Monstera deliciosa is an understory tropical plant native to rainforests of Central America in the Araceae family.  This plant has currently become a very popular houseplant. Known for its distinctive glossy, heart shaped or rounded leathery leaves. When the Monstera grows older, the leaves will develop deep clefts and oblong perforations (called fenestrations).

  4. Neoporteria cachitaensis violet, a small, deep green, barrel cactus with hints of violet, photographed at Tula Plants & Design.

    Neoporteria cachitaensis violet

    This collector’s cactus has roots in Cachita, Chile. Known for its deep green, almost purple trunk, it loves tons of light, great ventilation, and very little water.

    Opuntia cacanapa 'Ellisiana'

    The Opuntia cacanapa 'Ellisiana'  is native to the US (South Texas) and Mexico.  This Opuntia is a hybrid cultivated for its lack of thorns or shorter tufts of prickles.  This cacti is fast growing and produces grey green pads that are held vertically on spreading mostly horizontal stems.

    Philodendron hederaceum 'Brazil' is originally from South America and is an attractive perennial cultivar in the Araceae family.  It has heart-shaped glossy green leaves with irregular yellow-gold variegation.This cultivar is attractive as a hanging plant or they can be trained to grow up a moss pole.
