Manhattan Terrace - UES, NYC
Perched high above the Upper East Side, this terrace was designed as a quiet garden escape within the city skyline. Tula created a layered planting scheme that blends architectural evergreens, ornamental grasses, and seasonal perennials to bring movement, softness, and color to the space throughout the year.
Custom planter boxes frame the terrace edges with swaying grasses, echinacea, and flowering perennials, softening the surrounding architecture while drawing the eye outward to the city views. Larger statement plantings—including sculptural pines and evergreen shrubs—anchor the space and provide privacy, creating a sense of enclosure without blocking the skyline.
The layout balances dining and lounge areas within a lush but restrained planting palette, transforming the terrace into a warm, natural extension of the home—a peaceful outdoor room for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the changing seasons above Manhattan.
