Hauser & Wirth

In our collaboration with the globally recognized art gallery Hauser & Wirth, the Tula House design team was presented with a unique opportunity. For the new offices of their Chelsea headquarters, Hauser & Wirth’s goal was to transform the typical work environment into a space that harmonizes living beauty and artistry. Tula House was tasked with creating a workspace that feels invigorating yet serene, and deeply connected to nature.

Influencing both Hauser & Wirth’s vision and our own design concept was the work of Rashid Johnson, a contemporary artist represented by the gallery. Johnson frequently incorporates live plants and other greenery within his sculptures and installations, creating immersive living environments. This sensibility provided us with a natural design approach; one that views plants as a means to elevate the workspace not just aesthetically but experientially.

Inspired by Johnson’s themes of identity, presence, and care, we developed a design concept that was not about decoration, but about creating a living, breathing ecosystem in the workplace. Lush foliage was placed overhead and throughout the space, allowing it to intertwine and cascade through different areas, fostering a symbiotic relationship between nature and artistic expression.

We filled planters designed and produced by Johnson with tropical plantings chosen to create a rich, organic indoor landscape. Full, bold plants such as Monstera deliciosa and Philodendron selloum were perfect for adding sculptural elements to anchor the space, while graceful Kentia Palm and Philodendron “Burle Marx” added softness, movement, and layering. We included other favorites like Ficus lyrata, Dracaena reflexa, Strelitzia nicolai, Ficus elastica, and other tropical plants to complete the composition.

The resulting installation feels immersive and vibrant, curated as an organic extension of the client’s architectural and artistic integrity. Hauser & Wirth appreciate that the plant design resonates conceptually with the artists they represent, and they love the experience that has been created for their team and visitors alike.
